IHOP & Rice to Riches

[06/03/2007]

Okay, don’t laugh at me. Before the 3rd, I’ve never been to an IHOP. There was never a need! Eating out for breakfast usually meant dim sum. However, it was 2:30pm and Tak & Pris hadn’t eaten yet, so off to IHOP we went! It’s a 60 second drive from my house to it.

Tak & Pris

Tak had corn pancakes (which was… pretty corn-y, but I didn’t have more than a small bite so I can’t give a big opinion on it). Pris had french toast. I got a Vegetarian Black Bean Chili & Cheese Omelette, which is really not me, normally. I love to eat meat (NEVER WILL I BE A VEGETARIAN, OH THE HORROR OF THE THOUGHT), but oh, this seemed too good to pass up. Beans? Chili? Cheese? Topped with salsa and jalapenos peppers? There is not a better omelette for me!

My supah omelette

Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I’m not a big fan of omelettes usually, but this! Oh, it was so good. It came with pancakes which weren’t bad but! My attention was fully on the omelette. The beans and cheese were so good and I didn’t even have to add that much tabasco sauce on the thing! The egg was nice and soft and! *makes noises* I have no idea if others would agree but this was was my favorite omelette ever. (I love spicy things. It’s a very very strong addiction. I will put Tabasco sauce or 老干妈 (Lao Gan Ma, a Chinese chili sauce) on everything savory if I could.)

Later in New York, Pris introduced me & Tak to the wonderful world of rice pudding at Rice to Riches. It’s a shop on the edge of Chinatown/Little Italy and sells rice pudding, exclusively. If you don’t like rice pudding, it’s not the place for you, but if you do? Come and eat! :D Mhmmm carbs.

I was pretty full, since I’d eaten something before we went to IHOP, but hell if I was going to pass up an opportunity to eat delicious rice pudding!

I tried a bunch of flavors and would like to note that I was unimpressed with the cheesecake, expecting a much more tasty flavor. Pris got Take Me to Tiramisu so I settled on Almond Shmalmond. We both got Solo, which is the smallest size and is $5 each.

The pudding comes in these cute little reuseable bowls with a spoon that my friend refers to as a boomerang. The rice is nice and soft and chewy, and the flavor is quite strong, but we both think that the pudding tastes better when you alternate between two flavors while eating. I would recommend going either with a friend, or, if you have a big(ger) appetite, get Epic so you can get 2 flavors at once.
